Here’s something really fresh: A few minutes ago the official site of Audi published the first pictures and details about the new Audi R15 TDI +, the prototype made by the Germans who hope to make forgotten the victory of Peugeot in 2009 at Le Mans.
Audi introduced the first images of the German brand concept which will participate at the 24-hour race at Le Mans this year. The main rival of Peugeot 908 HDi, winner of last year, is officially called R15 + TDI and comes with an innovative design different from the classical patterns of the famous French endurance race.
The engine of the Audi R15 TDI is a brand new developed V10 TDI engine which produces more than 600 hp, with a maximum torque output in excess of 1,050 Newton meters and which reflects the latest version of the TDI Technology invented by Audi.
The first difference is found on the exterior colors, where the last years silver was replaced with a dominant red hue matching the black carbon one. “We wanted to add an element of surprise when our car is out of the pits at Le Mans. Basically we opened the body, leaving exposed the interior part” said Markus Auerbach, a member of the Audi Design Team.
The first event for the new Audi R15 TDI: this car will make its debut in a 8 hour race at Le Castellet (April 11), Audi Sport Joest team will make their “warm up” for the ultimate test: 24-hour race at Le Mans, which will take place on 12-13 June 2010.
Until then, the Audi prototype can be seen at work on the Belgium Francorchamps Spa circuit, where the Germans will test the car on the 1,000 km of the annual race that traditionally takes place in Flandra.
