F1: Mark Webber won the British Grand Prix!

Mark Webber gave a strong reply after the controversy arose in qualifications at Silverstone and achieved a victory without emotions in the British Grand Prix, after he passed on the start line his teammate Sebastian Vettel. The german was not able to fight to regain first place because of a “flat tire” which forced him to enter the pits, but eventually finished seventh.

Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) finished second after the advantage gained by the missed start of Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg won the third place, marking the return of Mercedes GP on the podium.

Although went from the 14th, Jenson Button (McLaren) took advantage of numerous incidents during the race and a late pit stop to fill the final 4th place ahead of Rubens Barrichello (Williams), while Kamui Kobayashi (BMW-Sauber) confirmed the race of Valencia and finished on an excellent 6 place.

The japanese achieved a personal best performance this season, followed by Vettel (RBR), Adrian Sutil (Force India) and Michael Schumacher (Mercedes GP) last one succeeding a new race in the ranking points after some disappointing races. The last point at stake was acquired by Nico Hulkenberg (Williams), the platoon being completed by Liuzzi (Force India), Buemi (Toro Rosso) and Petrov (Renault).

Ferrari had another nightmare weekend at Silverstone, just two weeks after the incident in Valencia. If Massa‘s race was ruined by a failure and a personal error, Alonso was 4th and he was fighting for the podium when it was penalized with a drive-through because he passed Robert Kubica in a short-circuiting baffle. The penalty is controversial because the Spaniard had no alternative at that time, the ideal path being blocked by the Renault driver.

However, one significant point of weekend remains Webber‘s statement trough radio immediately after crossing the finish line: “not bad for a number two driver”.

Fastest Lap Fernando Alonso 1:38.766 in the last round.
