Jenson Button won on Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve the Grand Prix du Canada at Montreal in Formula 1 2011 season, after he took advantage of a mistake made by Sebastian Vettel in the last lap.
After a race of over four hours due to its suspension for two hours after heavy rains, Jenson Button won the Canadian Grand Prix despite his five pit stops and a drive-through penalty.
McLaren driver was involved in two incidents with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, but even in this context was able to recover from 10th place and get the victory, thanks to a superior performance as the circuit dried up and using slick tires.
After he overtake Mark Webber and Michael Schumacher, he threatening approached Sebastian Vettel, who led the race with no emotion from the first until the 69th lap. But the world champion had a moment of hesitation in the last lap, the “pinching” a wet portion and skid enough to allow Button to overtake and pass the finish line first. Vettel had to settle for the second place, while the podium was completed by his teammate at Red Bull, Mark Webber.
Michael Schumacher was close to his first podium since he return into Formula 1, but was unable to withstand Webber and Button in the last laps of the race, which is why he satisfied with fourth place, even if shortly took second place.
Vitaly Petrov won fifth place behind the wheel of Renault, followed by Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Kamui Kobayashi (Sauber) and Jaime Alguersuari (Toro Rosso). Latest points at stake were adjudicated by Rubens Barrichello (Williams) and Sebastien Buemi (Toro Rosso).
