Kia came to Geneva Motor Show with three interesting premiers, but all the photographers present at the Korean stand were attracted by only one: the new 2012 Kia Cee’d.
The second generation of this compact model is a bet that Kia makes it in the European market for incoming years. If before the Geneva Motor Show 2012 we’ve seen the car in the hatchback version in a series of photos presented by Kia officials, at Geneva we saw the wagon version of this brand new Cee’d, a pleasant surprise in terms of design.
The new 2012 Kia Cee’d will be offered at launch with four engines, two diesel and two petrol derived in five power versions, plus one that will be available only on certain European markets.
The diesel engines are: a 1.4 WGT by 90 hp and a 1.6 VGT of 110 or 128 hp. In the petrol engine chapter, we’re talking about a 1.4 MPI of 100 hp and a 1.6 GDI of 135 hp. Kia will offer on certain European markets a petrol engine of 1.6 liters and 130 hp.
The most interesting of the above engines is the 1.6 liter diesel that develops 128 hp, 260 Nm and comes with a combined average fuel economy of 4.1 liters/100 km (57.4 mpg US, 69 mpg imperial). Furthermore, Kia EcoDynamics versions speak of a consumption of only 3.7 liters/100 km (63.6 mpg US, 76.4 mpg imperial).
All engines will have a six-speed automatic or manual transmissions, the petrol engine of 135 hp will have at its disposal the DCT dual-clutch box.
Other changes made on the new 2012 Kia Cee’d include a new front MacPherson suspension system and a multi-link suspension on the rear, a revised steering mechanism and an interior in which the rolling noise was much attenuated. The interior is also bigger compared to the previous generation. Kia Cee’d's luggage compartment reaches 380 liters (13.4 ft³), with 40 in addition to the old model.
The 2012 Kia Cee’d hatchback will be launched in Europe this summer, while the 2012 Kia Cee’d SW will enter showrooms in the autumn.
In the shadow of the 2012 Kia Cee’d, the Koreans presented at Geneva Motor Show2012 two other interesting cars. One is a concept launched in Chicago last month, called Track’ster – a crossover based on Kia Soul with sportive “ambitions” that could pave the way for a series model. The second is the first electric car developed by the Korean brand – Ray EV.
