Daimler and Toyota could work together to develop fuel cell technology

May 26, 2010

Germans from Daimler could collaborate with the Japanese from Toyota for the development and production of hydrogen powered vehicles. Cooperation between the two giants is at least interesting, since both have worked with Tesla at a time – the technology acquired by Daimler for the Smart electric version in exchange for shares(market stock) in Tesla, and Toyota has just started working with people from Tesla. The two world-renowned manufacturers want to minimize the development costs of cars that will take some time and the technology they will use. Cooperation between Toyota and Daimler is the first project of this scale between the two manufacturers. Fuel cells – how do they work: they use a reaction between oxygen and hydrogen to produce electricity in a process that does not emit gases that contribute to global warming. German Corporation has already developed fuel cell vehicles powered by them, but development and production costs of these vehicles are too high because they make return in the near future. Even those at Toyota have estimated that it will go another 10 years before this technology will be offered to the public. Toyota is investigating fuel cell technology since 1992, and Daimler made the first steps in this area in 1994. German manufacturer has already invested more than one billion euros (1.23 billion dollars) in projects to develop fuel cell technology for mass production. Hydrogen production and it emits pollutants, environmentalists and announcing that this technology must be improved before it is publicly available. The same problem...

The right of first refusal was given to Land Rover, forcing Jaguar XJ postpone the hybrid a few months. But in 2013 we’ll have a hybrid Jaguar XJ . Jaguar that also introduced hybrid will use the platform from the Range Rover Sport Hybrid, made from eight ZF automatic transmission ratios: will be installed inside an electric motor (35 kW), powered by lithium ion batteries and synchronized to work in parallel with the six-cylinder diesel. The British group will then continue the development of hybrid modules to propose, in 2015, with an architecture operating in series, even more refined species in electric mode: according to first estimates, even the most corpulent models can go at least thirty kms with an maximum speed of 70 km/h using only the electric motor to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 100g of CO2 per kilometer. As the final Renault Fluence ZE and Renault Kangoo Express ZE, the first two electric vehicles that will be marketed by Renault. By 2012 will be 4 in total electric vehicles equipped with the Zero Emission Technology. In particular, Fluence and Kangoo Express had already been presented in their half-finalized stage, being prezented during the last climate conference in Copenhagen in which test drives had been organized. Now, the two electric vehicles are already on the site dedicated to book in order to have priority at launch. Renault Kangoo Express Z.E. will be on our way by mid-2011: 160 km of autonomy while keeping the same functional characteristics of the thermal engine version (load volume, payload and comfort). In short, the power supply system does not affect the functionality of the Kangoo, subject, of course autonomy. Renault Fluence will be built on the same site in Turkey where it assembles the internal combustion engine version, something that makes you realize that even on zero-emission sedan will retain the characteristics of fossil fuel sister. Necessary condition to achieve the goal that Renault has set itself, namely to achieve the electric models for mass production. A tempting target and very ambitious, Renault also studying to put in place partnership in several countries to achieve the required infrastructure for widespread electric mobility. Columns and charging agreements with energy providers are an important step.   Related Posts:Paris Motor Show 2010: Renault Fluence Z.E.
