At a press conference held at the Auto Show in New York, a jury of 66 automotive journalists decided that the seventh generation Volkswagen Golf is worthy of the “World Car of the Year 2013 ” title.
World Car of the Year 2013 Winner
After winning “Car of the Year in Europe” at the Geneva Motor Show, just a few days ago at New York Auto Show Volkswagen Golf 7 killed its competitors and took home the prize for “World Car of the Year”
In the second day of the U.S. salon, at an event specially dedicated to this title, members of the jury decided winner’s name from a list that included: Audi A3, Land Rover, Mazda 6, Mazda CX-5, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Peugeot 208, Porsche Boxster / Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ / Toyota GT86 and Volvo V40.
But the winner was Volkswagen Golf 7, marking a new era of the German manufacturer, one with a continuous progress. The VW 7 received the second international award in just a month after winning Car of the Year in Europe. It is also the second consecutive year that World Car of the Year title is won by Volkswagen after last year’s title was given to the little VW Up!
2013 World Performance Car
The jury made of 66 journalists also had to judge two more categories “2013 World Performance Car” and “2013 World Green Car”. Performance section contained mostly sports models and Porsche Cayman and Boxster models defeated classic variants such as Aston Martin Vanquish, Audi RS5, BMW M6, BMW M135, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster, Renault Clio Sport and Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ / Toyota GT86.
2013 World Green Car
Title for the “World’s Greenest Car” went to Tesla Model S, which has surpassed the Renault Zoe, Smart ForTwo Electric Drive, Volkswagen Jetta and Volvo V60 Hybrid Plug-In Diesel.
Finally, journalists announced the award for the most beautiful design. As expected, the prize went to Jaguar F-Type.
