In April, BMW confirmed the rumors announcing a little brother for the X6. The Bavarian car manufacturer exhibited the BMW X4 Concept at the Shanghai Auto Show, announcing their intentions to debut into a new segment.

The Germans have perfected the last details of the production version and have already announced the release date. Christophe Koenig, Spokesperson BMW Automobiles, announced that the release of the new BMW X4 series will take place in the first half of 2014, and the first official details will be published on March 14th. That is the first day of the Geneva Motor Show next year edition.

“The all new BMW X4 will be presented during the first half of 2014. More details to be communicated in March 14.” Mr. Christophe Koenig said.

In these circumstances, it is logical to assume that the model will be presented for the first time to the public at the Swiss exhibition. Sales will debut a few months later, first in Europe.

From the early speculation, the BMW X4 design will be a reinterpretation of the current X6, on a smaller scale, and a slightly more spacious replica of the current X3. Compared with this, the new model will have a smaller trunk – about 500 liters. It has a length of 4,648 mm, a width of 1,915 mm, a height of 1,622 mm, and the wheelbase is 2,810 mm, in order to provide a spacious interior.

The new BMW X4 will be offered as standard with rear-wheel drive, the xDrive four-wheel drive will be available only in the options list or on stronger versions.

BMW X4 engines will include the 2.0-liter petrol unit and 240 horsepower, the 2.0-liter diesel engine and 184 horsepower. The flagship will be provided by a six-cylinder, 3.0-liter, ready to offer 330 horsepower.

The second BMW Sports Activity Coupe will be built at the plant in Spartanburg, USA, the Expertise Center for BMW X models and the production site for BMW X3, BMW X5 and BMW X6.
