Audi RS Q3 – Design & Engine & Price
The newest model from Ingolstadt doesn’t vary much from the concept that the 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition anticipated. At the exterior level, it replaces carbon fiber elements with some aluminum or black colored plastic. Regarding the engine, Audi didn’t provide too much horsepower.
The Germans rely on the 2.5-liter TFSI engine with 310 HP (228 kW) at 5,200-6,700 rpm and 420 Nm (309.8 lb-ft) available between 1,500 and 5,200 rpm, already found on Audi RS3 and TT RS. A standard 7-speed S-tronic transmission transmits the power to all four wheels via the quattro all-wheel drive.
Audi RS Q3 has sufficient resources for a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds, while top speed can reach 250 km/h (155 mph). What is even more remarkable is the mixed fuel economy estimated at just 8.8 litres/100 kilometers (26.7 MPG US / 32.1 MPG imp.).
To improve road behavior of the SUV, the German engineers have lowered the ride height by 25 mm (1 in), they placed the battery in the trunk for a better distribution of the total weight of 1730 kg (3814 lbs) and added 8 piston ventilated and perforated brake discs.
The ESC also comes with a Sport mode, which can be completely deactivated. Also, given the pronounced sporty features, the new Audi RS Q3 couldn’t come without a Launch Control function.
Audi RS Q3 exterior distinguish itself trough the 19 or 20 inch wheels, the brushed aluminum elements including roof anchor toolbars. The sporty features are highlighted by the large glossy grille, the RS spoiler, the single termination exhaust rear deflector and a spoiler mounted on the tailgate.
Sport seats were chosen for the Audi RS Q3, dressed in leather and Alcantara, both black, sashboard instruments on gray background with red needles, a sporty steering wheel and more aluminum inserts.
The luggage compartment has capacity of 356 liters (12.57 cu-ft), which can be increased to 1261 liters (44.53 cu-ft) by folding down the rear seats.
First deliveries will begin by the end of the third quarter of this year (2013) in Europe, with an Audi RS price starting from €54,600 Euros (Germany).
“The RS Q3 transfers the performance philosophy of Audi to the compact SUV segment, thereby creating a new performance class,” says Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of quattro GmbH. “In addition to the RS 5 Cabriolet, RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback, the RS Q3 is the fourth RS model that we are launching on the market in 2013. The RS family is growing to eight members – more than ever.” The RS Q3 combines typical RS properties such as high performance and driving pleasure with lifestyle qualities and high utility value. The Audi RS Q3 was developed by quattro GmbH which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AUDI AG.
