Audi Q8 is the next work project for the German car manufacturer. It will be bigger than Q7 and it will be developed on the aluminum platform of the future Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne models.
Although currently it offers a wide range of SUVs and crossovers, Audi wants a new model under the Q indicative. Audi Q8 will be a little bigger than the Audi Q7 model, with a coupé look, designed to steal customers from the already popular Range Rover.
Audi Q8 – Design & Engine
Currently available information announce an Audi Q8 developed on the forthcoming platform of VW Touareg / Porsche Cayenne / Audi Q7 models, but modified to accommodate the new dimensions.
The model will benefit from using plenty of aluminum, this being the solution that will ease the total weight with approximately 300 kilograms (660 lbs).
If the information is confirmed, we could have an Audi Q8 who will not exceed a total weight of two tons (4,000 lbs). An excellent first step in ensuring top performance with better efficiency.
The engine range will be provided by diesel and gasoline units with six or eight cylinders. Most likely, they will be completed by a hybrid system, since the technology is already used by the German manufacturer from Ingolstadt.
The project is already in an advanced stage of development, but the official launch is not expected before 2017. According to unofficial sources, Audi plans to sell about 25,000 units per year.
