Land Rover presented the second generation 2014 Range Rover Sport in New York. The design is inspired by the already famous Range Rover Evoque and comes with two engines: a diesel V6 (287 hp) and a petrol V8 (500 hp).
2014 Range Rover Sport represents the second generation of the model, and was unveiled at the 2013 New York International Motor Show (Jacob Javits Convention Center, NYC – Press day: March 27 and 28; Open to the public from March 29 through April 7, 2013). Gerry McGovern, head of design at Land Rover, describes it as “a Porsche 911 of SUVs.”

2014 Range Rover Sport – Design and Engines
The new model has the character of the next generation Range Rover, with its technical innovations and delivers them in a package reminiscent of the Evoque, offering a higher level of agility and maneuverability. Land Rover says that the new 2014 Range Rover Sport is the fastest and most agile Land Rover ever created.
2014 Range Rover Sport will be available from the debut with two engines: a 340 horsepower 3.0-liter supercharged V6 and a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 delivering 500 hp. Later, a diesel-electric hybrid version and a V8 diesel will be offered. As standard, the second generation RRS incorporates a Stop-Start system, an eight-speed automatic transmission made by ZF and permanent all-wheel drive system.
Unlike the previous generation, the 2014 Range Rover Sport is offered with either a two-speed transfer gearbox that offers the traditional “High” (road) and “Low” (reducer for rough terrain), which splits the torque 50/50 between axles, or a transfer gearbox with a single speed, which delivers torque between the axles in a fixed 42/58 proportion to provide enhanced handling on the road.
The first generation of the Range Rover Sport was the most profitable Land Rover model, so the new model should not make an exception. The monocoque aluminum chassis, suspension and transmission are shared with the new Range Rover, while the wheelbase and dimensions are different both from the new Range Rover and the old Range Rover Sport.
A first in the Range Rover Sport range is the third seat row that folds into the boot, designed to provide two additional seats for “occasional use.”
Passing over the aesthetics, the most important change from the previous generation comes to the weight, the 2014 Range Rover Sport savings approximately 800 pounds (360 kg), absolutely amazing. In addition, the new generation is more aerodynamic, with a coefficient of 0.34 Cd, very good value for an SUV, very close to that of a hatchback from the past decade.
