2013 Toyota RAV4 – Design & Engine
The fourth generation of the successful Japanese crossover comes with a new design, inspired much of the sharp and aggressive lines of the already popular Auris hatchback and Estate, models presented at the Paris Motor Show this year.
The transition to a new generation comes with generous dimensions, with a longer wheelbase and more interior space implicitly. Inside we see that there is a new instrument panel, new instruments, new infotainment system with a 6.1 inch LCD touchscreen, a new three-spoke sports steering wheel, circular air vents and metal ornaments. In the optional equipment there’s an GPS Navigation and Entune multimedia system with satellite radio and advanced voice recognition, and JBL GreenEdge Premium Audio with 576-Watts of maximum power, 11 speakers.
And because we’ve already walked into the interior, we must say that the new 2013 Toyota RAV4 will have a variety of new materials, better quality than those found in the current version. In addition, higher levels of equipment can provide even leather dashboard.
In Europe, 2013 Toyota RAV4 will be using diesel engines, most likely the 2.0 and 2.2 liter D-4D engine. In USA it will initially be available with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which will produce 176 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 172 ft/ lb of torque at 4,100 rpm and later with the V6 3.5-liter with 272 hp. It will all be assisted by a six-speed automatic (with Sequential Shift and Sport and Eco Modes) or manual transmission that can send the motion all-wheel drive, or four-wheel drive with the optional equipment system. It is not excluded the possibility that Toyota will use BMW engines, the new partners of the Japanese group.
Safety – all 2013 RAV4s will have a class-leading eight standard airbags. Like every Toyota, RAV4 will feature the Star Safety System, which includes Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Brake Assist, an Anti-lock Braking System and Smart Stop Technology.
The sales will start in America with the beginning of 2013.
