2013 Kia Sorento Facelift – first official photos and info

2013 Kia Sorento Facelift was presented today trough a photo gallery and plenty of information. The Korean SUV gets a new face (obviously), more efficient engines and some mechanical changes.

Kia didn’t fully took advantage of the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Although they presented there the new Pro_Cee’d, the Korean manufacturer kept for today two other world premieres. It’s about the 2013 Kia Sorento facelift and the Kia Cee’d Station Wagon. The Asian’s SUV received a new front – revised discreet, but kept the old model’s dimensions: 4685 mm long (184.5 in), 1855 mm wide (73 in). Ground clearance changes but is lowered by one centimeter (0.4 in) to reduce center weight and to improve the existing roadholding. Also in this chapter, Kia achieved a greater torsional rigidity by 18%.

At the aesthetic level, 2013 Kia Sorento comes with redesigned front headlights, a spoiler painted in body color, a new set of wheels and a set of LED lights for daytime running. At the rear, the SUV gets redesigned optical blocks, also based on LED technology and the same spoiler painted in body color.

Kia boasts with an improved level of safety, already tagged with 5-star EuroNCAP. The Koreans claim that they increased the bodywork rigidity, they have introduced new controlled deformation elements and offers in standard front, side and curtain airbags, stability control system (ESC) and downhill brake control (DBC). In addition to the already known systems – ABS and EBD, 2013 Kia Sorento facelift comes with an LED light signal, activated on emergency brake to warn other road users.

Kia engineers modified the suspension of the old model, together with the steering system that abandoned the old hydraulic solution in favor of the Motor Driven Power Steering system able to reduce energy consumption and therefore the fuel consumption. Behind the new 18-inch wheels, Kia has installed a new braking system, with somewhat bigger discs.

The Korean model comes powered by a CRDi engine with a capacity of 2.2 liters, revised as well. The unit triggers all four wheels through a manual or automatic gearbox. The diesel engine is capable of providing a fuel consumption of 5.5 liters/100 kilometers (51.4 mpg imperial, 42.8 mpg US), when provided with an automatic transmission, and only 4.9 liters/100 kilometers (57.7 mpg imperial, 48 mpg US) when there is a manual gearbox.

The engine provides 195 horsepower (145 kW/198 PS) and a torque of 422 Nm (311 lb/ft), available from 1,800 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is achieved in 9.4 seconds, while top speed stops at 189 km/h (118 mph).
