The new Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar prepared by the Germans for the official launch during this autumn at Frankfurt Auto Show (September 10-22, 2013) beats all the figures that the sports car manufacturer from Stuttgart accustomed us. In addition, the new model will be produced in a limited edition: only 918 copies.
With the approach of presenting the production version of the Porsche 918 Spyder, that will be launched at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the German officials are starting to provide new details and technical information about most expensive Porsche model in history.
Porsche 918 Spyder – Price & Engine
Porsche 918 Spyder price, it seems, will be around EUR 650,000 ($850,000 / £550,000), the interested customers will have to pay a €200,000 advance to get on the short list. The access on the waiting list will be but an honor, the German model being produced in only 918 copies, the number honoring such the official name of the German hybrid supercar.
According to Bavarian brand’s officials, the most important market for the new Porsche 918 Spyder will be United States, where it will sell, on average, “one car per dealer.” Given that at this time Porsche has 190 showrooms, we find thus that almost a quarter of the total 918 cars will go to the US.
Regarding technical data, things have changed for the better from the official presentation of the concept until today. Thus, although the hybrid propulsion system of Porsche 918 Spyder consisting of a 4.6-liter V8 petrol engine plus two electric motors was originally announced with a total power of 770 horsepower, today’s figures show 887 ponies and an acceleration from 0 to100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds.
The maximum speed is 340 km/h (211 mph). There will also be a full-electric mode, Porsche 918 Spyder accelerating in this mode from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7 seconds, while the top speed will be 150 km/h (93 mph) and the autonomy 30 kilometers (18 miles).
