The Germans introduced the new Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible and Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible. Both versions will debut on the market in spring next year.
Porsche presented the new 911 Convertible ahead of the Detroit Auto Show 2011 (NAIAS – North American International Auto Show). The model boasts with a new soft-top type roof folding, equipped with a range of plastics components that confer an extra efficiency in terms of aerodynamic and a higher level of roadholding refinement.
Porsche 911 Convertible will debut early in 2012, and will be presented both at Detroit Auto Show 2011 (the North American debut) and at Geneva Motor Show 2012 – were the European premiere will take place.

2012 Porsche 911 Convertible Design
The retractable roof of the new Porsche 911 Convertible is made from a bi-material structure, which uses plastic composites at the top and the back of the structure, while the adjacent parts are made from a conventional structure, consisting of several layers of textile material.
The entire assembly sits on a magnesium frame and is assembled or disassembled in just 11 seconds. The result is a more elegant joint between the bodywork and the soft-top, which gives a great look for the 2012 Porsche 911 Convertible. In addition, the drop-top model is now even more aerodynamic due to this element, and the noise at high speeds have been significantly reduced.
Porsche 911 Convertible can switch from the top up to top down at speeds up to 30 mph (50 km/h), like it did before. With the new roof, the Germans gave to the 2012 Porsche 911 Convertible an air deflector for the drop-top running mode, which can be raised by pressing a button to reduce turbulence in the cockpit.
2012 Porsche 911 Convertible Engine
Just like the new Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, the 2012 convertible from Zuffenhausen is offered with two boxer engines: a 3.4 liter unit for 911 Carrera and a 3.8 liter unit for 911 Carrera S. The customers can choose between a seven-speed manual transmission, provided as standard, and a seven-speed PDK transmission. All improvements made ??on the 991 generation of Porsche 911 will be offered also for the convertible version of this model.
The fastest iteration of 2012 Porsche 911 Convertible is Carrera S PDK. This model needs only 4.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-100 km/h). However, the combined MPG is 31.74 (UK; 26.43 US; 8.9 l/100 km – average fuel consumption).
If the Sport Plus package is chosen, acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (0-100 km/h) is accomplished in 4.3 seconds. Maximum speed of the Porsche 911 Convertible is 186 mph (299 km/h), with 1.25 mph (2 km/h) less than the seven-speed manual transmission version, offered as standard. Instead, the manual transmission is slower from 0-60 mph and the combined fuel efficiency is higher.
