Paris Motor Show 2010: McLaren MP4-12C

McLaren MP4-12C is the sensational super car that all McLaren F1 fans have awaited. The ravishing model has been displayed at Paris Motor Show this year, demonstrating again that McLaren vehicles are the most competent super cars one could buy.  With a denomination quite hard to remember (MP4 is the codename for racing cars and C seem to come from Carbon), the successor of McLaren F1 arrived in front of its audience with a lot of new design and technical elements.

However, its manufacturers have given up to the unconventional central driving position and to the usage of gold for its body.  Anyhow, the super car is very agile and light. McLaren MP4-12C is entirely constructed of carbon fiber. Thus, the vehicle is believed to weight around 1300 Kg. On the other hand, the excessive use of fiber carbon has as a result a quit high price, of approximately 200.000 euros.

From another point of view, the new McLaren MP4-12C has a rather low engine capacity, as the unit was created by McLaren this time was not taken from BMW, as in the F1 case. Anyway, the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine has a more than sufficient power, releasing 600 bhp. The British say that it has the highest hp level per CO2 gram, compared to an internal combustion car. Moreover, it is believed that MP4-12C carbon dioxide emissions are really impressive – 300g/ km. The power of the super car is controlled by a dual-clutch gear box, with a new interesting feature. The McLaren MP4-12C gear box works as an auto-focus camera: you push the paddle half away, then by pressing it completely-the change is almost simultaneous. With these specifications, McLaren MP4-12C is expected to accelerate from McLaren MP4-12C. There are three modes available for the management system of the car: Normal, Sport and High Performance, offering to the driver as much adrenaline as he wishes.

The new McLaren MP4-12C is not only very competent on straight line roads. With a relatively low gravity center and its light weight, the super car should feel great on a curvy road, especially because it is equipped with a Brake Steer system. Moreover, aerodynamics helps a lot in this respect, the McLaren MP4-12C having a completely flat floor and all its body components having a functional role.

In terms of design, there is an obvious evolution of McLaren F1, the manufacturers maintaining a similar appearance and combined it with modern elements, such as LED lights, both in the front and the back sides of the vehicle. The doors open vertically by pressing a paddle. The interior is quite simple, the only high-tech element being represented by a 7 inch touch screen placed on the center console. In any case, the visibility is excellent, a rare thing in the super cars’ range.

The series production of  McLaren MP4-12C will start in McLaren MP4-12C, the vehicle being quite exclusive. There will be 1000 units produced annually, less than the Ferrari and Lamborghini number of constructed cars.
