The bodywork lines borrows from the 918 Spyder Concept philosophy, using a set of new optical blocks, a little more muscular profile and an aggressive rear with a prominent false spoiler. The side air intake isn’t missing, already becoming a specific design feature for Porsche.
Inside, the 911 Carrera interior, served as inspiration. The central controls have been repositioned, and in the middle of the dashboard has been installed a new LCD screen for the multimedia system.
Under the fresh and attractive design of the 2012 Porsche Boxster hides a car with a longer wheelbase and a better track width. The classical structure of steel was replaced with one made of aluminum, which allows the supercar to show off a few pounds less. The roof has been automated and now has an efficient system of folding.
2012 Porsche Boxster Engine
Although it has been spoken for a long time about the introduction of a new four-cylinder engine, Porsche hasn’t succumbed to the temptation to drastically reduce the emissions media.
They preferred instead to improve existing engines. The old boxer engine, 2.9 liters, has now a smaller displacement, 2.7 liters, but offers 10 additional horses: 265 horsepower (197.6 Kw / 268.7 PS). The intake favors the acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h), which is made in just 5.7 seconds.
The top version, 2012 Porsche Boxster S comes with the same 3.4 liter engine equipped with direct injection and 5 extra horses. With 315 horsepower (235 Kw / 319.4 PS), the German model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in just 5 seconds.
For both engine versions, Porsche offers as standard a 6-speed manual transmission and optional the famous PDK 7-speed automatic transmission. They help to achieve a fuel consumption of 7.7 liters/100 km (30.5 mpg US, 36.7 mpg UK) for 2012 Porsche Boxster and 8 litres/100 km (29.4 mpg US, 35.3 mpg UK) for 2012 Boxster S.
As in case of the 2012 911 Carrera , Porsche offers the Sport Chrono package, a limited-slip differential and Porsche Torque Vectoring system.
2012 Porsche Boxster release date for the European market has been set to this spring.
