Ferrari press office has just published the photo and the official press release on the 458 Challenge, a few hours after the escape of some spy images. The Ferrari 458 Challenge made its world debut at Maranello, at the Annual Dealer Meeting, the appointment that each year brings together the international Ferrari sales network.
The new sedan, which will complement the track season in the 2011 Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli is the fifth model used by Ferrari to give life to the brand, that from next season will be enriched by a new series scheduled in Asia-Pacific.
The 4.5 direct injection V8 engine with 570 bhp and 9000 rpm, is strictly standard. Finishing touches were made on the ratios and the calibration of the F1 gearbox with double clutch, to provide greater torque at low revs. Using the E-Diff electronic differential, also on the road is new compared to predecessors of this Challenge.
A big work has been done on the field of weight reduction involving both the exterior and the interior: Horse engineers have worked in particular on the thickness of the body and the use of lightweight materials, using carbon fiber and the Lexan.
The work of developing Buoyancy generated a specific set-up changes through the suspension, now fitted with racing-style aluminum joints, stiffer springs, shock absorbers monotaratura, wheels 19 ‘with central locking, Pirelli slick and larger ground clearance reduced by some 30 mm.
The Brembo brakes CCM2 is the next generation, installed for the first time on the 599XX and integrated with the ABS system here has a dual configuration, one for funds with low grip and a more performance for use in dry conditions.
Another novelty is the use of the F1-Trac, the world’s most sophisticated traction control. Developed by Ferrari, this device provides a continuous estimate of the level of adhesion to the ground to improve the performance of the car. For this application were developed two specific size for the track (dry and wet) with control strategies derived from racing in Formula 1 and the GT is fully integrated with the E-Diff to maximize performance output curve.
The management of ABS, E-Diff and F1-Trac is all through the use of rotary knob, which is a completely novel solution for a model dedicated to the Challenge. The pilot may choose to use the settings for the wet (WET location) ol’asciutto (DRY position) and in the latter case you can disable the traction control (CT-OFF position).
During the development on the track, Ferrari 458 Challenge has improved by almost two seconds the lap time at Fiorano than the previous model, setting a new record in 1’16″5. Overtime the value of lateral acceleration when cornering, which reached the 1.6 G. Disarming performance then, but the reach of many second home in Maranello, which speaks of a great accessibility and ease of riding…
