Volkswagen presented the first images this weekend with the strongest version of the Bugatti Veyron. Officially called Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, the new version develops 1200 brake horsepower and it’s emerging in the automotive world in style: overcoming the world speed record for a production car.
According to the official announcement from Volkswagen, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has reached an average speed of 431 km/h on the VW Group test circuit in Ehra-Leissen, at the event being present and representatives of the TÜV (German Technical Inspection Agency) and a representative of the Guinness World Records. They validated the record, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport becoming world’s fastest production car reaching the highest top speed of automobile history.
Speed reached by the Veyron Super Sport was calculated under the rules Guinness Book of World Records, by the average of three tests conducted by the test pilot Pierre-Henri Raphanel. The first one ended at 427,933 km/h, second at 434,211 km/h and the third at 431,072 km/h. The record took by surprise even the Bugatti officials, who expected a maximum speed of 425 km/h: “Today’s weather conditions were perfect and allowed us to reach this record”, said Wolfgang Schreiber , Bugatti chief engineer.
The car that achieved this record is equipped with an engine of 1200 bhp and 1500 Nm. The difference of 199 horsepower from the serial model which established a landmark for the competition is achieved by implementing four new turbines and a significantly larger size intercooler.
For the production car, the maximum speed is limited to 415 km/h, measure taken to protect the tires, but the technical equipment of the model which established the speed record is identical to the available versions for the customers. On a technical level, the Veyron Super Sport comes with new suspension developed for racing competitions, allowing greater levels of car control. In addition, the machine structure is made entirely of reinforced carbon fiber, and the body is made of the same material. According to the Bugatti, Veyron Super Sport on the road is subject to lateral accelerations to 1.4 G
Bugatti Veyron Super Sport production will begin this autumn, the official presentation of world’s fastest production car will be held in August, at the contest at Pebble Beach, California.
