Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Design

With a design that looks more like a concept than a road car, and with a top performance developed by the 740 horsepower engine, the new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta shows that design and technology can make a good team in the hands of one of the most famous and wanted car manufacturers in the world.

To design the new model, both Centro Stile Ferrari and Pininfarina have contributed, and the result sends the F12 Berlinetta in the new gallery range signed by the Italians, alongside the recent Ferrari 458 Italia and Ferrari FF.

Built on a spaceframe chassis in which the aluminum has a very important role, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta drops 70 kilograms (154 lbs) compared with 599 GTB, reaching 1525 kilograms (3362 lbs). Torsional stiffness is 20% higher from the model it replaces, and weight distribution front/rear is 46/54.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Engine

Under the hood of Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is a V12 engine with 65 degrees cylinders of 6,262 cubic centimeters. It develops 740 horsepower (552 kW / 750 PS) and massive torque of 690 Nm (510 lb/ft). 80% of the torque is available at 2,500 rpm and the maximum power goes up to 8700 rpm, where the limiter starts to operate.

The engine is coupled to a F1 transmission that makes the new model in a sporty thoroughbred: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.1 seconds, 0-200 km/h (125 mph) in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph). The combined fuel economy of 15 liters/100 km (15.7 MPG us, 18.8 MPG imperial). Although it seems high compared with the “mundane” models with which we are accustomed, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta’s consumption is 30% lower than the old 599 GTB.
