Volvo S60 Polestar is a performance version of the current S60 made by Volvo in collaboration with Polestar. The model could get a V8 engine of 400 hp to fight BMW M3.
A year ago, Volvo announced that it will expand its collaboration with Polestar, a car tuner specialized in creating sport versions based on the Swedish model. It seems that the partnership has come a long way, Polestar already preparing a surprise for the Scandinavian brand fans.
Volvo S60 Polestar – the archnemesis
Unofficial sources and several spy shots anticipate a performance version of the already popular Volvo S60 sedan that will enter in the mainstream segment against BMW M3, Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 AMG.
The premises are good, given that Polestar isn’t at its first experience of this kind, in the past managing to launch the C30 Performance Concept, a true racing hatchback.
Volvo S60 Polestar could be powered by an ultra-potent version of the V6 petrol engine or could rely on a high performance V8 engine, taken from its bigger brothers, XC90 and S80. The eight-cylinder unit delivers 315 horsepower from its aspirated version, but Noble has shown that it can squeeze even 650 horsepower when this engine was used for its M600 supercar.
The potential engine, estimated at 400 hp in the case of Volvo S60, could be used by a sequential transmission and a Haldex all-wheel drive.
The spy photos reveal the tests that Polestar makes aboard a S60 with larger bosses, generous air intakes and sport rims, clear evidence of a sports version.
