According to certain information published in Christophorus Magazine, owned by the German manufacturer Porsche, the public will have the opportunity to see the new supercar live only in the fall of 2013, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Deliveries will start in just a few weeks following the auto salon, but considering that we are talking about an exclusive model, whose development took several years, some customers will receive the desired copy of Porsche 918 Spyder even in 2012.

Porsche anticipated an increased demand for the 918 Spyder and promised those who will order the supercar a bonus, a limited edition of the 911 Turbo S.

Porsche 918 Spyder Engine

Compared to the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid Concept that won the hearts of fans at the Geneva Motor Show 2010, the series number will “suffer” some changes under the futuristic bodywork.

The propulsion will be provided by a conventional gasoline engine, a 4.6-liter V8 borrowed from the RS Spyder LMP2 competition model. Unlike the concept, which used a 3.4 liter, the new engine will be submitted to some major improvements: a higher compression ratio, lightweight new pistons, an oil pump with variable pressure and electronic control of valves.

After the changes made to the V8 engine, it would develop a total of 550 horsepower (558 PS / 410 kW). To these resources the power and torque of the three electric motors will add up. In these circumstances, Porsche 918 Spyder could even develop 720 horsepower (730 PS / 537 kW).

The new Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar whit all that power and torque will have a combined fuel economy of just 3 liters/100 km (78 mpg US, 94 mpg UK), and with CO2 levels at about 70 g/km.
