Icona Vulcano – A New Hibrid Supercar Presented at Shanghai 2013

The Chinese auto show amazed the audience with the entry of a new producer on the scene demanding high-performance exotic cars: Icona Vulcano. Icona Volcano aims to rival the likes of Ferrari and McLaren P1 Ferrara. We wonder: does it have real chances?

The new Icona Vulcano sports coupe is the first car that the newly established in China company proposes to millionaires – though, for the time being, no price was communicated, not even an estimate.

The new company is made of specialists with a rich history in the automotive world such as ex-Nissan designer Samuel Chuffart or the engineer responsible for the Lancia cars which ran in the 80s in the World Rally Championship – Claudio Lombardi.

Icona Vulcano surprised with a good individual design which, indeed, contributed greatly to the emergence of the “volcanic” car on the road. With a carbon fiber body and aluminum panels, the 2-seat coupe with a compact size, measuring only 4.45 meters long, enters without caution in the sports cars Olympus, such as Ferrari Ferrara and McLaren P1.

Not only the looks of the car will draw the attention of the millionaires passionate about sportiness, but also the technical package. For the future series models, officials announced two propulsion systems, both hybrids.

On the one hand we have the combination of a noble V12 and an electric motor (H-Competizione), resulting in a maximum output of 950 hp sent to the back deck, and performances are of the order of 2.9 seconds for 0-100 km / h and 350 km / h for the maximum speed.

On the other hand, we have the H-Turismo solution, which involves a twin-turbo V6 engine under the front hood and two electric motors on the rear axle. The overall strength in this case amounts to 870 hp, but by using electric motors, Icona Vulcano functions as a 4×4, the handling safety increasing.

The 0-100 km / h starting, in this case, is by only 0.1 seconds weaker, being done in 3.0 seconds, while the total weight is of 1380 kg (compared to the 1.6 tons with the V12 engine). The gearbox is sequential with 7 gears in both cases, and the rev counter is graduated up to 10,000 rpm, promising “volcanic” sensations.
