The new Audi S6 gives up the V10 and comes with a 420 horsepower V8 engine that manages to rise to the same level of performance and consumption. The model will be launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show (September 13).
Audi presented the new releases in the sports range of S. It is about the new Audi S6 (in sedan and Avant versions), Audi S7 and Audi S8 of. All four models will be present in the spotlight at the Motor Show in Frankfurt where Audi will also bring the electrical concepts Urban and Urban Spyder, the new Audi A8 Hybrid and – probably – the new Audi A3, about which the Germans have not talked yet.
Engine and performance
The most important appearance in the new Audi range is represented by the new Audi S6, model which is affected by the downsizing policy and thus lose its V10 engine in favor of a V8. Performance and technical data does not descend in comparison to the current model. The new twin-turbo V8 develops 420 horsepower and 550 Nm, managing to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.8 seconds (4.9 seconds for the wagon version) and have a top speed limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
Audi announced that the official fuel consumption is 9.7 litres/100 km (9.8 liters for the Avant), models developed by the car manufacturer from Ingolstadt managed to descend below the barrier of 10 liters with Start-Stop system available in standard in and through an intelligent management system of active cylinders, the V8 “becoming” a V6 by disabling two cylinders not needed to run when underperformed.
New Audi S6 has the quattro all-wheel drive system and S-tronic transmission with seven gears. The suspension is lowered by 10 millimeters compared to that of the Audi A6, while the brake discs are ventilated on both front and back and are designed to meet the challenges posed by running in high performance conditions.
At the aesthetic level, the changes are not major. Audi S6 increases in length by 1.6 cm (0.6 inch) and comes with a slightly modified grille, the horizontal bars are now chromed and double. A small spoiler appears on the trunk lid, which in the case of Audi S6 Avant is placed on the ceiling. Finally, four pipe exhaust system fit new air speaker. The interior is another aspect which Audi designers have changed very little compared to the A6. Basically, S6 logos appearing in the cockpit, red circle around the button engine start, aluminum pedals and a few new shades and textures available for the dashboard are the only visible changes. Optionally, customers that will chose the new Audi S6 will be able to order sport seats with the S logo embossed on the headrests.
