Alfa Romeo 4C will make its official magnificent debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Two years after the presentation of the 4C Concept at 2011 Geneva Motor Show, we can finally see the series version. The coupe is measuring under 4 meters and offers only two seats. The propulsion will be provided by the already famous 1750 cc engine.
Alfa Romeo takes advantage of the 83rd edition of the Geneva Motor Show to bring before the public the most spectacular model built by them in the recent years. Alfa Romeo 4C debuts as a final production version, which means that the bold design lines presented today in the photo gallery below, will be seen this year on the street. We say this year, because Alfa Romeo has already announced the availability of the new model starting mid-2013, including its arrival to the American shores, where the Fiat-Chrysler Group needs the support of an entirely new range of models.

Alfa Romeo 4C – Design & Engine & Price
Designed exclusively by Alfa Romeo Centro Stile and built at the Maserati plant in Modena (Italy), the new Alfa Romeo 4C Competizione slightly copies the look of the concept with the same name shown at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Compared with the concept model, the series version has a new bonnet, larger mirrors, conventional grips, new optical blocks (front and rear) and a new rear diffuser.
The “4C” acronym draws its inspiration from the brand’s glorious past, projecting the values of technology and emotion into the future. It refers to the vast and great sports tradition of Alfa Romeo: 8C and 6C acronyms during the decades of the 1930s and 1940s were distinctive racing cars and also street versions which took advantage from the powerful 8-cylinder and 6-cylinder engine innovation.
The general lines are inspired by the legendary 33 Stradale model, managing to combine mechanical functionality with an emotional design, compact and dynamic. Also, the drag coefficient of the bodywork is very low, reaching a new record for Alfa Romeo.
For the interior, the Italian designers opted to leave the carbon fiber safety cell of the passenger compartment in full view, in order to foster a feeling of uniqueness and technological progress. The cockpit will accommodate only two passengers and will be integrated into a bodywork that measures less than 4 meters in length(150 inches), 200 cm wide (78 in), 118 cm high (47 in) and has a wheelbase of 2.4 meters (94 in). These dimensions emphasize the compact size of the model and enhance flexibility. Even more, thanks to the wonderful work of the designers, the car achieves top level aerodynamics, creating a negative Cz (negative lift coefficient – downforce coefficient) which, as in the case of racing cars, contributes to enhanced stability at high speeds.
Alfa Romeo 4C will not have a carbon fiber bodywork, but will weigh approximately 900 kilograms (1984 lbs). The news comes from Pierallini Mauro, head of Fiat Engineering (Europe), which has revealed the details in an interview with the British journalist Paul Horrell from Top Gear. More specifically, the Alfa Romeo 4C production version will be equipped with a light bodywork, the front and the rear are made of aluminum and the floor will be made from carbon fiber.
Alfa Romeo 4C – Engine & Technical specifications
The propulsion will be provided by the turbocharged 1.8-liter petrol engine (1750 cc), four-cylinder with direct injection, that’s also found on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde model. The unit uses an aluminum block and special intake and exhaust systems, which are optimized to enhance the sporty look and feel of the car even more. The engine develops 235 HP and will provide a time for 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).
The engine is coupled to a TCT dual-clutch transmission, recognized for the reduced mass and the quick response. The gearbox also features a sequential gear changer that can be used via the steering wheel paddle shift.
Although the power level doesn’t seems high for a sports car that costs around €50,000, Alfa Romeo remembers that the new 4C will have a power-to-weight ratio comparable to a Porsche 911 Carrera, and that the torque-to-weight ratio will be better than the German model with which they compare.
The car achieves the architecture and construction of the power-weight ratio of a genuine supercar (less than 4 kg/horsepower; 4 kg=8.5 lbs), however, not only focusing on maximum horsepower, but also to limit the weight to ensure maximum flexibility and superior performance.
Alfa Romeo 4C uses technologies and materials directly from the super-sports models (including Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione) – carbon, aluminum, rear-drive technologies and the latest models of Alfa Romeo, upgraded to enhance the sporty character of the model even more.
The frame tub type is made entirely from carbon fiber by Dallara Automobili, with structure support operation. The front and rear sub-frames are made of aluminum. The weight distribution is: 40% front and 60% rear.
Alfa Romeo 4C has a new driving mode selector, called DNA, which provides three choices: Dynamic, Natural and All Weather. In addition we have a completely new driving mode, simply called Race – designed to further improve the driving experience on the race track. All have different effects on engine, transmission and roadholding.
Alfa Romeo 4C Price and the grand American debut
According to preliminary information, the Alfa Romeo 4C starting price will be around 50,000 Euros (approximately $65,000 / £45,000 – at the current exchange rate). The new Italian model will be built in 18,000 units throughout its lifetime, at a rate of 2500 copies per year, production begining by May 2013.
Alfa Romeo 4C debut on the market will take place in the middle of the 2013 summer . The model will also be offered on the U.S. market (thus contributing to the global growth plan of the company), where Alfa Romeo wants to make an impression together with the debut of Alfa Romeo Giulia saloon (the159 successor), in late 2013 and early 2014. Furthermore, Alfa Romeo will launch a crossover shortly after the onset of 4C. Italians promise more versions for 4C Competizione, among which will be a model that will develop around 300 hp.
Alfa Romeo 4C represents another unique feature of Alfa Romeo, a brand with a history of one hundred years that is still one of the most famous and popular ambassadors of Italian products around the world.
The final version of the Alfa Romeo 4C makes its début at the 83rd International Motor Show in Geneva. This mid-engined rear-wheel drive coupé with two bucket seats represents the true essence of a sports car at the heart of Alfa Romeo’s DNA: performance, Italian style and technical excellence, offering maximum driving satisfaction in total safety.
The Alfa Romeo 4C derives directly from the concept which raised many eyebrows in wonder at the Geneva Show in 2011, so much so that it won three prestigious awards: the ‘AutoBild Design Award’ (2011, Germany), the ‘Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes’ (2012, Italy) and the ‘Most Exciting Car of 2013’ – ‘What Car?’ (2013, Great Britain).
