Volkswagen released just minutes ago the first images and information of the new Volkswagen Golf GTD, sporty version of the compact, powered by a diesel engine offering 280 pound-feet of torque. The new model comes with 184 horsepower and a slightly modified look.
Volkswagen unveiled today the next generation of the Golf GTD, less than a month before its official launch at the Geneva Motor Show 2013. This new compact version continues the story started by the first Volkswagen Golf GTD launched in 1982.
2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD Specs
Propulsion is provided, as you already know, by a diesel unit. It’s a new generation 2.0-liter TDI providing 184 hp, an engine already loved by the public for its resources, but also CO2 emissions that comply with Euro 6 emission standards. Together with a six-speed manual transmission, this new sports compact can reach a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h). Even so, the mixed consumption is 4.3 litres/100 kilometers while emissions reach 109 g/km.
Estimated values of 280 pound-feet of torque (380 Nm) can be obtained by its already famous DSG transmission with six shifts. It frees maximum torque at 1750 RPM but also influences fuel consumption reaching 4.7 litres/100 km. Emissions also become 119 g/km, respectively 122 g/km, for three and five-door variants.
Volkswagen says the manual-equipped Golf GTD should go up to 56 mpg on the European combined cycle. Come to think about it, it’s not bad for a car that can fit five blokes and accelerate to 60 mph in around 7.5 seconds.
2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD’s exterior comes with new tail lights on black background but also LED lights and a customized license plate. We also see brand new chromed tailpipes, 17-inch wheels with 225/45 tires, side skirts, a deflector and a rear spoiler mounted on the trunk. The whole package is completed by a new suspension. The range of colors available for Volkswagen Golf GTD includes three colors: Red Tornado, Black and Pure White.
2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD Interior & Price
