Although there are several months until the start of the Frankfurt Motor Show, Opel has decided not to extend its fans waiting and has published the first pictures and information with the new generation Zafira. Monocab’s name now receives the Tourer extension, to distinguish it from the old model, which the Germans have decided to keep it on the market until May.
Opel Zafira is a family car that already reached the third generation, and takes design from the concept presented in Geneva this spring. Front side keeps the boomerang-type design for headlamps and bumper, while the profile adopts the same muscular style.
The series version inherits also concept’s interior lines, where we find many influences from other Opel models. New levels of equipment and customization will be available, along with a panoramic roof, which extends on the full length of the car.
The new generation takes over the old Opel Zafira versatility and improves mobility system of Flex7 seats. Now, passengers from the second row of seats benefit from an individual control and a Lounge setting, which folds the backrest of the middle seat and converts it into an armrest for the other passengers.
According to Opel officials, Zafira has a boot capacity of 710 liters when there are only five people inside. When and rear seats are folded, luggage capacity increases to 1840 liters. Generous space is largely due to size increase of the German model. Opel Zafira now has a new platform that offers a wheelbase from 2760 mm, 57 mm greater than the old generation.
The new Opel Zafira will be offered to the public in Europe with three derivatives of the 2.0 CDTI diesel engine, 110, 130 and 165 horsepower. For those who prefer petrol, Opel offers a 1.4-liter versions Ecotec unit of 120 and 140 horsepower.
All petrol and diesel engines will be offered with the new Start/Stop system developed by Opel to reduce consumption. A few months after the market launch, Zafira will also receive an ecoFLEX version, one on LPG, as well as a new gasoline engine.
According to the official press release, Rüsselsheim officials decided to continue the commercialization of the current Opel Zafira generation as a more accessible version of the new model.
