The future American brother of the more famous Alfa Romeo Giulietta is preparing to launch: for now, Dodge Dart presents itself through a series of teaser-images.
Dodge will take advantage of the close collaboration between Fiat and Chrysler to bring on the market a compact car who promises much. It is called Dodge Dart and it’s a compact sedan built on an adapted version of the platform of Alfa Romeo Giulietta, and will officially replace Dodge Caliber. The new model will debut at Detroit Auto Show 2012 (North American International Auto Show – NAIAS 2012) in January. Dodge now presents us the first details of the new model. The key word: style and technology.

Dodge Dart Design
The absolute novelty is the fact that the new model gives up the American platforms and will be built on an adaptation of the C-Evo platform from Fiat, the construction basis of the Fiat Bravo, Lancia Delta and Alfa Romeo Giulietta. But the Italian connections of the American model don’t stop here, Dodge Dart revealing in these first images a much more “friendly” design than the Dodge Caliber it replaces.
Dodge Dart interior full of technology
The most interesting detail about Dodge Dart is related with the two displays that will have different roles, both located in the front of the cabin. The first is a 8.4-inch touchscreen display (the largest in the segment) from which can be controlled the air conditioning and multimedia systems. The second is a 7-inch TFT display placed between board gauges and displays vital information that can be customised to suit the driver.
The Americans wants to make Dodge Dart a new kind of glossy compact car, announcing that the future customers will have 14 different colors to customize the interior and another 12 for the exterior. In addition, the ambient light can also be ordered separately, the bright red color that appears in this images is one of the options.
Dodge Dart Engine
The engines available on the new Dodge Dart will be in the number of three, all on petrol.
We’re talking about a 2.0-liter engine or a 2.4-liter, both officially called Tigershark, and a own version of the 1.4 liter MultiAir engine from Fiat. According to Fiat-Chrysler’s manager Sergio Marchionne, the 1.4-liter turbo engine will be able to achieve a combined fuel consumption of just 5.8 litres/100km (40.5 US MPG, 48.7 UK MPG).
The most exciting aspect of the new Dodge Dart is however related to transmission options. Therefore, customers will be able to order Dodge Dart with a six-speed manual transmission or one with a dual-clutch automatic transmission derived from the TCT available on Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Above all, however, comes the option to order a nine-speed automatic gearbox developed by ZF. This will improve the combined fuel efficiency of the model with about 10-15%.
