Chevrolet Malibu – European premiere at Frankfurt Motor Show 2011

Chevrolet brings the new Malibu to Frankfurt Motor Show 2011. Opel Insignia‘s “brother” will enter on the auto markets next spring.

Chevrolet Malibu was introduced to the public at Auto Shows in Shanghai and New York, it’s finally landing in Europe on September 13, the first day of the Frankfurt Auto Show. Chevrolet Malibu will be built on the platform of Opel Insignia, the model following to be – unlike the Insignia – one with a global design, which will be found in the same shape in over 100 markets that Chevrolet operates.

The main difference between markets will be represented, as we expected in fact, by the engines that Chevrolet engineers have chosen to be part of Malibu‘s portfolio. Thus, if in the U.S. we are talking about 2.5-liter Ecotec engine, which has four cylinders in line, direct injection and comes in with a six-speed automatic transmission, the engine developing 190 horsepower and 245 Nm, Europe will receive two units, one diesel and one petrol. The diesel is a 2.4-liter engine that develops 169 horsepower, while 2.0-liter gasoline unit develops 164 horsepower. Both engines shall make available to customers a manual and an automatic gearbox in a world premiere.

Other technical features available on Chevrolet Malibu worth mentioning include a McPherson front suspension and multi-link independent on the rear and systems  available in standard: ABS, traction control, ESC, EBD, BA, Hydraulic Brake Fade Assist and Drag Torque Control. None of safety measures has not been forgotten, the new Chevrolet Malibu counting eight airbags. Chevy Malibu has even roof airbags with rollover protection, which are available as standard regardless of the market.

The exterior combines the appearance of several models from Chevrolet, while the posterior shows influences from the Camaro. Inside, inspiration also comes from the Chevrolet Camaro, the board clocks being stylized in a similar manner, while the center console has some elements that remind us of Chevrolet Volt and Chevrolet Cruze. U.S. market will rejoice at the introduction of MyLink infotainment system that integrates several elements by the Bluetooth connectivity and offers Chevrolet Malibu customers many facilities.
