2014 Cadillac CTS – Design & Engine

After a series of teasers released by Cadillac, new official photos reveal the complete design of the sedan. The new designed LED descend from the headlights to the bumper, trying to give an individual touch premium to the 2014 Cadillac CTS. The prominent grille and a more pronounced bonnet lines complement the overall design defined by the Art & Science philosophy. At the back, optical blocks keep a vertical shape and are also equipped with LED lights.

The interior retains the line already available on the latest Cadillac products – the mid-size ATS sedan and the XTS saloon. An absolute novelty would be with the replacement of dashboard instruments with a digital display. Also, the multimedia system display increases in size to provide a techy look.

Unlike the old generation, the new 2014 Cadillac CTS is positioned directly within the E segment, with new dimensions, more generous, which places it next to the German rivals.

Important novelties under the bonnet, where General Motors has already announced that 2014 Cadillac CTS will have a 3.6-liter V6 supercharged engine capable of delivering 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque (583 Nm).

This resources are sufficient to power the new car from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.6 seconds. The new engine is paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The top speed is 170 mph (274 km/h). The new 3.6-liter engine has new connecting rods, aluminum pistons, intercooler and a new sprinkler system.

The 2014 Cadillac CTS engine range is completed by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder for the base car, producing 272 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), and a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 developing 321 hp and 275 lb-ft (372 Nm). The 2.0-liter engine uses a six-speed automatic transmission, while the 3.6-liter engine is matted with the new eight-speed automatic. A manual transmission isn’t offered with any engine. Both will be equipped with four-wheel drive, but found in the options list.

2014 Cadillac CTS – MPG & Price

Related to the fuel efficiency, no EPA numbers haven’t been officially released. According to first Cadillac estimates, the base 2.0T rear-wheel-drive 2014 Cadillac CTS will achieve 19 MPG city and 30 MPG highway. With AWD the numbers should be somewhere around 18, respectively 28. For the new 3.6-liter V6 engine, Cadillac estimates 19/28 MPG city/highway, with rear-wheel drive and 18/27 MPG with AWD.

An official 2014 Cadillac CTS price hasn’t been announced yet, however we expect to have the pricing list closer to the sedan’s release date later in 2013. Production of the 2014 Cadillac CTS will begin this autumn at GM’s plant in Lansing, Michigan.

The third-generation CTS sedan is based on the high-performing rear-drive architecture of the award-winning ATS sport sedan, moving Cadillac into the prestigious class of midsize luxury sedans. It will be the segment’s lightest car, enabling the most agile driving dynamics in the class. A range of power-dense powertrains underpin its performance, including the all-new Cadillac Twin-Turbo engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.

“The all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan delivers crafted design, thrilling performance and sophisticated technology,” said Bob Ferguson, vice president, Global Cadillac. “The car that has always been Cadillac’s centerpiece stretches figuratively and literally to challenge the world’s best.”

“With Cadillac growing globally, driven by rising product credibility, the new CTS elevates the brand to a new level,” said Ferguson.
