After we have seen several leaks so far, the Germans decided to present all the details (price, engine, technology) and the official pictures with the 2014 BMW 5 Series facelift. Regarding the restyled version of the sixth-generation 5 Series, the changes are quite limited, BMW making only “… precise modifications to the design.”
BMW unveiled the first official pictures and information of the 2014 BMW 5 Series. The restyling covered the entire range including the ActiveHybrid5 version, the M version, 5 Series GT and Touring versions. BMW also has published the full range facelift prices for the North American market. The 2014 BMW 5 Series starting price is $50,425 (including the $925 destination charge) for the 528i sedan.

2014 BMW 5 Series comes to update the technology, the equipment offered and the engines in the range. Regardless of the chosen version, there are aesthetic changes, many of which are difficult to spot for the untrained eye, but their presence is noticeable when comparing with a pre-facelift version.
2014 BMW 5 Series DESIGN
As with any restyling, first came the first modifications came at the aesthetic level. The lines surrounding the front grille were modified, and the vents integrated in the lower front bumper also received a number of changes. The 5-Series Sedan and Touring versions received an additional modification at the rear bumper, while the rear lights have a sharper contour to provide a more powerful look.
The side mirrors now integrates a set of direction indicators. As in the case of the pre-facelift version, the model is available in the company of a M Sport package. Another novelty is the Luxury and Modern ranges available for the 2014 5 Series, which includes a number of different standard elements, the changes being very subtle.
In addition, all the 5 Series models are offered with new exterior colors, new interior colors, new interior trims, the customers having now more options for customization. The range of alloy wheels offered with the 2014 BMW 5 Series has more members, in order to please all the potential clients.
The 2014 BMW 5 Series interior enjoys the standard iDrive system, which is equipped, in standard, with chromed control elements. In addition, the storage compartments have increased in capacity, the changes being also applied to the center console. For instance, the 2014 BMW 5-Series GT trunk has a bigger volume – 17.6 cu-ft (500 liters), 2.1 cu-ft (60 liters) more than that of the previous version.
2014 BMW 5 Series ENGINES
All the 2014 BMW 5 Series engines became more economical and more efficient than the units they replace. Regarding the diesel engines, all units are offered with the BMW BluePerformance system, ensuring low nitrogen oxides emissions.
The BMW EfficientDynamics technologies offered as standard include the auto Start-Stop system, kinetic energy recovery, gear shift indicator, the ECO Pro function and a special technology which introduces a new “coasting” function, which means running without the engine being connected to the car’s transmission and without slowing the running speed, everything to reduce fuel efficiency.
BMW has introduced a system called Proactive Driving Assistant, able to automatically adjust vehicle speed in the case of reaching an area with a lower speed limit. The ECO Pro navigation system, available with the BMW Professional system takes into account many factors in the system management to take full advantage of the vehicle’s capabilities and road configuration.
The 2014 BMW 5 Series aerodynamic coefficient received a number of improvements, the drag coefficient of the 520d model being now reduced to 0.25.
The 2014 BMW 5 Series range has now received a new entry-level engine, called 518d, which is a four-cylinders in line engine of 1995 cc, delivering 143 horsepower and is available in the 5 Series Sedan and 5 Series Touring ranges. This engine version announces a fuel consumption 4.5 liters/100 km (52.3 mpg US, 62.7 mpg Imp.) and CO2 emissions of 119 g/km.
Contrary to the first impressions, we are not talking about the first small displacement diesel offered in the 5 Series range, although the mid-range BMW model had throughout its life cycle, some smaller displacement petrol engines. Also at the range, seven versions of the 5 Series Touring, eight versions of the 5 Series Sedan and six versions of the 5 Series GT can be equipped with all-wheel drive system from the BMW xDrive.
Also, seven versions of the 5 Series Touring, eight versions of the 5 Series Sedan and six versions of the 5 Series GT can be equipped with the all-wheel drive system – xDrive – from BMW.
The 2014 BMW 5 Series hybrid version is now more “smart,” the model being equipped with a special Proactive Driving Assistant version. It adapts in real time the balance between the electric motor and the internal combustion engine to obtain the best possible fuel economy for the route programmed into the navigation system.

The 2014 BMW 5 Series will go on sale in the US starting with August, 2013.
