Rolls-Royce presented the Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection limited series, dedicated to Sir Malcolm Campbell, the multiple land and water speed record holder of the 20s and 30s.

The Waterspeed limited edition is dedicated to the “watery” results of Sir Malcolm Campbell on board the various versions of the Bluebird, equipped with a Rolls-Royce engines.

Rolls-Royce dedicate this special edition to Bluebird K3, the hydroplane boat that reached 129.5 mph (208.5 km/h) in September 1937 on Lake Maggiore.The skill and talent of Sir Malcolm Campbell made him among the few record holders in the field of his time who died of natural causes, most of the time’s daredevils that wanted to break speed records perished in accidents related to their attempts to overcome records in question.

Each Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection of the limited series is painted in a shade inspired by the Bluebird race car created by Sir Malcolm Campbell.

The special color is present on both the metal caps of the 6.75-liter V12 engine and the 11-spoke alloy wheels. Moreover, Rolls-Royce have replaced the teak wood used for exterior trim of the retractable roof with steel with a glossy finish. The interior has gray leather and has the Bluebird logo on the central armrest. In addition, the cabin presents “Abachi” wood trim and the instrument cluster have graphics inspired by the watches used on the legendary Bluebird models built for Sir Malcolm Campbell.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection is priced at £435,000, and will be built in only 35 units. The first copy will be displayed next to Lake Como in Italy, located near Lake Maggiore, where Sir Malcolm Campbell has achieved the water speed record, at the helm of Bluebird K3, equipped with a Rolls-Royce engine.
