The two Bentley Continental GT V8 bodywork versions are equipped with a newcomer in the range – the 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo developed by Audi. The unit has variable displacement, being able to deactivate four cylinders when they’re not in use and it’s 40% more economical than its bigger brother, the 6.75-liter W12 engine.

The V8 engine delivers its 500 bhp (507 PS/373 kW) at 6,000 rpm and offers maximum torque of 660 Nm (487 lb ft) between 1700 and 5000 rpm. Bentley Continental GT V8 is offered only with a close-ratio eight-speed automatic transmission, while providing a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in less than five seconds and a top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph).

Bentley said that the engine / transmission package provides “exceptional” values of fuel economy and NOx for the “luxury performance” segment, but didn’t revealed these data, and will wait until early next year in order to publish them.

Both Bentley Continental GT Coupe V8 and Bentley Continental GTC V8 have standard all-wheel drive with Torsen differential and a power distribution between axles of 40:60 front/rear. Bentley officials say that the transition from four to eight cylinders is imperceptible and occurs only at low loads.

The Bentley Continental GT V8 engine boasts a high pressure direct injection, special rolling bearings with low friction, thermal management system, an innovative supercharging package and a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS).
