Shortly after launching the new generation of Volvo S60, the Swedish manufacturer comes with this new model, called Volvo V60. Stationwagon version of S60 received the title Sports Wagon in an attempt to highlight the dynamic capabilities of the new model from Gothenburg. The first item that you see in this model is the figure, which looks more sporty than a normal break. This was achieved by the low roof line and wedge-shaped body when viewed from profile. Number 60 in the Volvo range will be used to indicate the sportiest models. The first step in this direction was the XC60 followed by S60 and the new V60.
Volvo wants to sell 50,000 V60 units from the first year since this model will be available on the market. Around 90% of prospective customers will be European, and most important markets for people at Volvo are Sweden, Britain, Holland, Italy and Germany. V60 model will be built at the Swedish factory in Torslanda. The first copies will be delivered in autumn 2010.
V60 chassis promises new dynamism to a level as high as that offered by S60, said Volvo officials. The model is offered with two different chassis – touring and dynamic. Dynamic version is offered as standard on the European market, while other markets will benefit as standard the touring version and can choose the optional Dynamic chassis. The difference between two different chassis sits in shock and front and rear suspension components. Thus, the chassis offers a high level of touring comfort on road grade. Volvo officials say that the dynamic version of the chassis does not compromise the comfort of lower quality land, this being one of the conspicuous differences between the two types of chassis available.
In addition to the two different chassis, customers who choose a Volvo V60 can choose FOUR-C system, which is an acronym to Volvo active chassis. This optional equipment provides a level of driver control never seen before as comfort level is raised to the highest standards of Volvo. T6 version of Volvo’s V60 is offered in a standard four-wheel drive system, while the D5 version with automatic transmission that also can receive the optional equipment. Direction, bushings and springs used by V60 are stronger than any other Volvo made so far. The choice is accompanied by dynamic chassis and Advanced Stability Control system with tilt sensor that provides precise intervention where slippages and Traction Control system eliminates understeer tendencies.
V60’s interior will ease typical Scandinavian models made by Swedish and emits an extrovert attitude through exceptional quality materials and functionality that will give evidence. Rear seat is split 40/20/40 and provide a flat floor when folded, and the trunk opening has a width of 1095 mm giving a load space which can be used easily.
Because we talk about Scandinavian manufacturer known for its innovations in safety, meet the standard City Safety system with the possibility of ordering Pedestrian Detection System, which avoids collisions with pedestrians in low speed limit situations. Of the new infotainment system from Volvo will also be included in the list of optional V60‘s. This was accomplished with Audyssey Laboratories who provided the MultEQ technology, which makes the V60 to enter a very exclusive list in terms of models designed with this system.
V60‘s powertrain range includes three diesel units and five petrol engines. Diesel sites offer between 115 bhp and 205 bhp and Otto engines offer between 150 bhp and 304 bhp. The torque ranges between 270 and 420 Nm for diesel and 240 Nm and 440 Nm for Otto units. The first year of V60 production will be introduced a DRIVe versions of this model, which is an entry-level version of the diesel range and is only available with a manual transmission with six reports. The other diesel units are offered with either six-speed manual transmissions or automatic transmissions with six reports.
