Citroen DS range – a real success story
The new Citroen DS range started two years ago, when the French launched DS3, the premium version of C3, available only in a three-door version. Later, the French have developed the DS4 version of the new C4, which had three doors, but claimed to be a coupe thanks to the silhouette and the fact that the rear window could be opened.
Citroen organized in France a special event to celebrate the success of DS range, called the DS Days, carried out between April 12 and 14 in the cities of Poissy, Mulhouse and Sochaux.
The Citroen DS range
In November 2011, Thomas d’Haussy, head of planning, announced that the Citroen DS range will have six different models.
One of this six models will be exclusively for the Chinese market, and its appearance was prefigured by the Metropolis concept. Citroen prepares a city model that will rival Fiat 500 and would be called DS1. The model could be based on the future C1, a model that will share the platform with the successor of Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo.
Citroen DS range also includes a hybrid: Citroen DS5. The crossover model that is based on the platform of Peugeot 3008 and is related with 5008.
All engines of Citroen DS5 are borrowed from its cousins, including the HYbrid4 version with 200 HP (150 kW/203 PS) and CO2 emissions of 109 grams per kilometer (60 mpg imperial, 50 mpg US). This model offers a 2.0 liter HDi FAP engine and 163 HP (122 kW/165 PS) in the company of an electric motor of 37 HP (28 KW/38 PS). Citroen DS5 can go only in the electric mode for a given distance, while the electric propulsion system can play the all-wheel drive role when necessary.
