The future Bentley SUV scheduled for launch in 2015, has set an almost incredible target. Engineers and designers working on the project aim to build a luxury SUV model capable of reaching a top speed of 200 mph.
Bentley prepares an SUV that is able to reach a top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h). The news comes directly from the representatives of the British luxury automobile maker based in Crewe who gave away additional information.
Bentley SUV – Design & Engines
The Bentley SUV foreshadowed by the EXP 9 F concept is optimized from all points of view to reach a top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h), without “harming” the practicality and the off-road capabilities of the new model. Bentley will go as far with these ambitions that will opt for a floor board aerodynamically optimized, along with the ceiling changes to incline the windshield as much as possible.
The future Bentley SUV will require specially developed tires that provide off-road capabilities suitable for the intended model, along with the ability to run at high speeds for a long time. The aerodynamic changes applied to the floor of the Bentley SUV will be an industry first for this class of cars. Normally, for an SUV, manufacturers operate improvements that provide protection from possible shocks caused by stones and resistance to the corrosion hazard brought by the harsh operating conditions faced by the off-road models.
The Bentley SUV will be launched in 2015, while the plug-in hybrid version will be available one year later. The rationale behind the new hybrid drive train choice for this SUV, is that an SUV provides the needed space for the hybrid system’s batteries. The elements that make up the propulsion system could be taken from the current Porsche Panamera Hybrid.
According to in-house sources, the development of the production model has reached an advanced stage, its design being completely different from the one presented by the EXP 9 F concept. To be honest, the Bentley EXP 9 F concept was not received very well even by the target customers, nor the by the 2012 Geneva Motor Show general audience. The new Bentley SUV has received more than 2,000 pre-orders, say the Bentley representatives, without any of the 2,000 customers knowing how the new SUV will look and how much the production model will cost.
The new Bentley SUV could be built in the VAG factory from Bratislava. The production decision for the new SUV at the Slovak plant is closely related to the fact that Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg are produced in the same factory, and these models will share the new technical platform in order to reduce the production costs. For now, the Crewe based luxury cars manufacturer did not specify if it will produce the future Bentley SUV in the Bratislava factory or if they will still use the English plant.
