2015 Chevrolet Spark – well, this is a rumor for now, but the launching of the next generation Chevrolet Spark is planned for 2015, according to a source within GM’s South Korean union, quoted by Reuters.
General Motors is working on new generation of Spark and Aveo. According to Reuters, the launch of the next generation of Chevrolet Spark will take place in 2015, while the new generation Chevrolet Aveo has been postponed for 2016.
2015 Chevrolet Spark will be produced in South Korea
The GM representatives did not comment on the information provided by Reuters, which were derived from sources within the GM union from South Korea. The U.S. company executives negotiate with the unionists who were assured that they will produce a new generation of Spark starting with 2015.
The syndicalists have requested assurances in the past that General Motors will not move the production from South Korea. Currently, GM South Korea produces and exports models like Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Aveo, which are then sold in the markets of USA, Europe and more. Spark is produced at GM’s plant in Changwon, while Aveo is produced at its plant in Bupyeong, near the city of Seoul.
According to official data of the GM South Korea, Chevrolet Spark sales reached 215,177 units in 2012, while exports accounted for over 70% of the Spark’s production. The Korean division of General Motors was formed after the acquisition of the defunct Daewoo in 2002, a major partner of the American corporation on the Asian market.
South Korean unionists were concerned about moving production to another country after General Motors announced plans to produce the next generation of Cruze in another factory.
