The new Datsun brand officially unveiled its first model called Datsun GO, especially dedicated to the Indian car market. The model was presented by Carlos Ghosn in a formal ceremony. However the legendary brand revived by Nissan has absolutely nothing to do with the Datsun car enthusiasts of the past.
Datsun brand has been revived officially this morning in an official ceremony hosted by Carlos Ghosn in India. Nissan Group revived the famous Japanese brand, but gave it a different profile. Datsun will be a budget brand that targets emerging markets. For starters, Datsun models will be sold in India, Russia and Indonesia, the first model being called Datsun GO. The new car will compete with cars like Hyundai i10.
Datsun GO – Design & Engine & Price
Datsun GO is produced in India and will be available in the Indian market from the first part of next year (2014). The name is inspired by the 1914 DAT-GO. The exterior design is very similar to that displayed by the Nissan Micra.
The new Datsun GO is a class B model, based on the Nissan Micra, a simple five-door hatchback and 3.8 meters long. It’s a simple car, designed for Indian customers in the middle social class. It will be available only with the 1.2-liter gasoline engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
At the interior, things are austere and simplified – the glove compartment, for example, was replaced with a storage area. Also, the handbrake and the gear selector is mounted on the center console next to the steering wheel to clear the space between the two front seats.
Datsun GO is the first in a series of models that will be launched next year for the markets of India, Indonesia, South Africa and Russia. In India, the Datsun GO price starts at INR 400,000 or about EUR 5,200.
Delhi, India (July 15, 2013) — Datsun today unveiled the first new Datsun car for the 21st century. The all-new Datsun GO will be on sale in India in early 2014.
The Datsun GO is the realization of the commitment made by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in March 2012 to return the Datsun brand to the marketplace. Datsun is the third brand for the Nissan Motor Company along with the company’s Nissan and Infiniti brands. Datsun will play an important role in the Nissan Power 88 mid-term business plan.
“This is an historic day for Nissan Motor Company and for our customers and partners in some of the world’s fastest-growing markets. It’s also an exciting moment for many women and men here in India who – today – come one step closer to realizing the dream of purchasing a car,” said Carlos Ghosn, Nissan Motor President and CEO, when unveiling the car.
“When a customer buys his first new car in countries like India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa, first he dreams about it. To realize the dream, customers need to have access, feel a sense of belonging towards the Brand. Also, as this purchase will represent a significant part of their disposal income, it is important for them to have full trust in the brand and the product. So Dream, Access and Trust are key values for which the Datsun brand stands now,” said Vincent Cobee, who leads Datsun.
