Peugeot Onyx Concept – The hybrid
According to preliminary information, Peugeot Onyx Concept is equipped with a hybrid drivetrain, consisting of a combustion engine of 250 hp (186 kW/253 PS) and an electric motor of 150 hp (112 kW/ 152 PS), together offering a total of 400 hp. The hybrid gasoline-electric motorization is based on the 1.6 THP engine from the French motor range and the unit provides an average of only 4 liters/100 km (70.62 imperial mpg, 58.80 US mpg).
Peugeot didn’t give any more details about the new Peugeot Onyx Concept, but published a video that shows the origin of this name and idea behind the concept. The concept has a look that reminds of Lamborghini Reventon, but a closer look eliminates any similarity between the two.
Peugeot Onyx Concept has a set of taillights with an aggressive design that fits on the electrical adjustable spoiler. Between the three elements above the Peugeot logo dominates, in case we forget who made this fascinating concept.
The front side of Peugeot Onyx Concept presents two elements emphasized by the French – the optical blocks and the massive front grille. While the front grille is not so carefully valued, the headlights are very narrow and sharp, presenting a potential design direction for future creations in the French brand.
Although Peugeot Onyx Concept will never see the daylight in a production version, this design study reignites the French honor, after recently Renault made a splash with their Alpine A110-50 Concept, yet another pure sports prototype version.
