Peugeot will bring to Frankfurt an advanced hybrid based on the 208 platform, a variant that should have the same performance as the Peugeot 208 GTI, but whith an average consumption of 2.09 liters/100 km. (62mph)
Peugeot has developed a hybrid version of the 208 that promises outstanding performance. This is called Peugeot 208 Hybrid FE Concept and will be on display at the Auto Show in Frankfurt. Development was made by two teams, Peugeot Sport and Total, and this brings big hopes for the new model.
Unlike other hybrids, this model will be about 200 kg lighter than the old Peugeot 208, all because of the extensive use of lightweight materials such as fiberglass. Unfortunately, all innovations used on this model will not be seen in a production model in the near future as Peugeot still does not have any plans to produce this model for a larger audience.

This hybrid is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in eight seconds. Mass is of 775 kg, due to the glass fiber elements. Among the innovations of this FE Hybrid concept we should remind its rear suspension, which has been replaced with glass fiber elements, just one element in the form of a “blade” instead of the classic bar, springs and the rear suspension arms and the front suspension arms also from glass fiber.
Reducing the mass of the hybrid went so far as Peugeot used a tank of 20 liters. Even with this tank, its theoretical range is 1,000 kilometers, thanks to an average consumption of 2.09 liters/100 km.
Peugeot 208 FE Hybrid Concept Engine
The old 1.0-liter unit was seriously improved, displacement was raised to 1.2 liters. The electric motor is taken from Peugeot 908 Hybrid, the Le Mans prototype, also including its hybrid module. However, the unit used by the French concept develops 40 hp and is using a lithium-ion battery with 90 cells. It provides an amazing range of 19 km in 100% electric mode.
The transmission is a five-speed EGC gearbox, which has been integrated using the hybrid system mentioned above. We’ll try and keep you updated with this interesting car. Hopefully, Peugeot 208 Hybrid FE Concept may go into production or at least inspire future models launched by the French manufacturer,
