BMW will try to become the leader of super cars segment by revealing its series version of Vision Efficient Dynamics concept. The “athlete” will directly challenge the electric Audi e-tron.
When describing the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics at Paris Motor Show, the BMW representatives said that they will use the prototype as a starting point for a new design philosophy and also to create a completely new sporty vehicle, able to become the most appreciated super car in the world.
The presence of BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics at Paris Motor Show has revived the critics’ speculations, the German magazine Autobild rushing to announce the producing of a series for the year 2013. According to the German journalists, BMW Vision EfficientDynamics will be produced in a limited number of units, estimated between 5.000 and 10.000.
The “player” will receive an alternative drive train, capable of fitting BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics into a position alongside its future rivals Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell, Audi E-tron and even Porsche 918 Spyder.
Under the futuristic gorgeous body lies a hybrid assembly, able to proel the concept up to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds and to ensure a maximum speed of 250 km/h. BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics manages to achieve this performance with the aid of a 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine, having three cylinders and being assisted by two electric engines, positioned on each axis. The concept can generate 356 brakehorsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Moreover, with its batteries loaded, Vision will achieve just a 50 km distance. The charging process of the Lithium-Ion batteries will last 2.5 hours, if you choose a simple 220 V plug and 44 minutes from a 380V one. Despite the fact that the tank has a capacity of only 25 liters, the Bavarians assure us that, together with the energy stored in batteries, Vision will be able to run 690 km, emitting just 99 g CO2/ Km. As for the diesel engine, it only consumes 3.76 liters of fuel per 100 Km.
The body of the new BMW Vision EfficienDynamics Concept has a substantial contribution in achieving a grandiose success at Paris Motor Show 2010 edition for the BMW brand. The chassis is made of aluminum, as well as the suspension. The body is constructed from carbon, some of its parts-the roof and windows are constituted from polycarbonate glass, which become darker when exposed to light. Aerodynamics is an equally important fact. Thus the engineers have made remarkable efforts in order to reduce its coefficient, the result being satisfactory – 0.22.
Although the resources baggage is not quite impressive, the concept presents excellent Bavarian performances, thanks to its low total mass of just 1395 pounds. Even so, its dimensions allow BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics to transport four passengers and their luggage.
