Audi presented the first sketches of his competitor to BMW X1. The model is called Q3 and will fight in the premium compact SUV segment.
Audi presented the first sketches of the future Q3 the smallest SUV in its range. The new Audi Q3 compact crossover is based on Audi Q5 and will debut on the Chinese market and then will be introduced in other markets. Despite the onset of China, the model will be built at the Seat plant in Martorell, Spain. Audi Q3 SUV will benefit from the TFSI and TDI engines of the Volkswagen Group and promises outstanding dynamic abilities.
Rupert Stadler, Audi management board chairman, said the Spanish plant was chosen “for reasons of efficiency, excellent quality of the production department and well trained staff. We will use the synergies of the Group in order to compete better and to protect over 1,200 jobs. Moreover, the decision provides safety and other employees of the VW group factories.“
The main difference between Audi Q3 and Audi Q5, in addition to aesthetics and size, is the fact that the new model will use the floor of the Volkswagen Tiguan. Regarding the interior, these designs shows a slight change in the cabin, but we are skeptical of such changes, chances are that the model series to be much “wiser” in terms of design.
Audi team will equip Audi Q3 with three otto engines and three diesels. At launch, only two engines will be offered a 2.0-liter TFSI, 170 hp with one offering a manual transmission, while the stronger version offers 211 hp and an S tronic transmission. Customers who prefer diesel engines can choose a 2.0-liter TDI unit and 170 horsepower, offered with the S Tronic gearbox. Later will be offered three engines, two diesel and one petrol.
