Kia Niro Concept announces a new rival for Juke, Captur, and Mokka

Kia will debut next year in the small city crossover segment, and the new Kia Niro Concept, whose photos have been published today, will be the source of inspiration for the future South Korean model.

Once the car manufacturers have realized that small urban crossover segment is attractive to customers, the number of models represented in this class multiplied frantically. Thus, where two years ago we were discussing just the Nissan Juke model, today we have an army of models that are more or less “playful”, dedicated to the young audiences.

Well… in the market context outlined above the South Koreans from Kia take a stand, today announcing a concept from which shall arise its own representative in this segment.

Officially, the prototype we see today in this pictures is called Kia Niro Concept. The “real” version will be presented at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (65th Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 10-22 September).

Designed on the Kia Design Center Europe in Frankfurt, Germany (“less than a kilometre away from the IAA” as the South Koreans announce in their official press release), the new Kia Niro Concept bears the signature of the brand’s Chief Designer Europe, Gregory Guillaume. ‘Niro accepts any challenge from the modern drivers its and adventurous nature combined with a robust bodywork, but significantly leaning towards the design.’

Kia Niro Concept is designed to imagistically describe the lines of the future production model, which will probably appear in a production version next year. In these circumstances, Kia didn’t give any more details about the engine mounted under the bonnet of the concept. It is expected however that the South Korean manufacturer to offer the same engines that are already in the range, the B segment models line being already quite rich: Rio, Rio Sedan, Venga and Soul. It is not excluded that the new engine will be a hybrid one.

Kia has confirmed that its dramatic new European concept, to be unveiled at the 65th Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) in Frankfurt, will be called the Kia Niro.

The Kia Niro hints at a possible future B-segment contender ready to take on the urban environment with style and tenacity, and will preview an innovative new powertrain when it is revealed on September 10. The car was designed at Kia’s Frankfurt design studio – less than a kilometre away from the IAA – under the direction of Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer Europe.

Accepting any challenge that the assured modern motorist may throw at it, Niro combines a mischievous character in a clearly robust and substantial yet stylish body shape featuring a mix of contrasting materials – including stainless steel elements – in compact, purposeful dimensions.

Born out of Kia’s determination to seek new compact-car options for the individualistic and demanding driver for whom size is an issue, Niro features intriguing elements not always associated with smaller cars and has been created in Europe with European tastes and expectations very much in mind.

Niro’s unveiling in Frankfurt will be used to gauge potential customer response for future showroom models.
