Clearly, Ford Transit Custom Cargo Van is based on the Tourneo Custom concept that pleasantly surprised the public by its very aggressive appearance. Just like Tourneo Custom, Transit Custom has large optical blocks and a trapezoidal grille.
Ford Transit Custom Cargo Van will be offered with a 2.2 liter Duratorq engine with inline-four cylinders, available in three power versions, all coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. The entry level will develop 100 horsepower (75 kW/102 PS), while the top engine will develop 155 horsepower (116 kW/157 PS).
All engine versions will have the start/stop system as standard and the most economical version has an average fuel consumption of 6.6 liter/100 km (42.8 mpg imperial, 35.6 mpg US) and emits 174 grams/100 km of CO2, with 8% less than the current equivalent of the Transit range.
The new Ford Transit will be offered both in versions with short wheelbase and the extended wheelbase versions. The payload of this model is between 600 (1,323 lbs) and 1,400 kg (3,086 lbs), depending on the selected version.
Ford relies on the dynamics of this model, similar to a passenger car and the driver-focused cabin, designed to attract the new generation of consumers of commercial vehicles. 50,000 km (31,000 mi) is the distance that can be traveled in the new Ford Transit between two revisions, the largest in the segment. The new Ford Transit Custom Cargo Van will go into production in mid 2012, at the Ford plant in Kocaeli, Turkey.
