Smart Forstars Concept represent the vision of the German mark regarding a coupe in the mini segment, a rival for Mini Coupe, but also brings a new style that will be the backbone of future models of the brand.
The new Smart Forstars Concept has under the hood a fully electric drive-train with an engine of 80 hp (60 kW/81 PS) and 135 Nm (100 lb/ft) that can lead the concept to a speed of 130 km/h (81 mph).
The Smart concept not only base its engine on future technologies, the Germans announced that all vital functions of the car – from multimedia system to the air conditioning – can be controlled by using an iPhone. Moreover, under the hood is hidden a projector that allows viewing images transmitted by the same iPhone on any vertical surface that fits a film screening.
With 23 centimeters (9.5 inches) shorter than the production model Mini Coupe, Smart Forstars Concept (the name derives from the fact that the concept’s ceiling is 100% transparent) comes with design elements that foreshadows the next generation of the classic Fortwo and Smart’s future four-seater that will be developed in collaboration with Renault. Both models will see the light of day in 2014.
