2012 Paris Motor Show brings many new models presented for the first time to the public and the press. We chose ten of them to see what awaits us in the coming days.
We turn our attention on the production models that will be the headline of the next days. The premiere list at 2012 Paris Motor Show includes approximately 100 models, but we chose ten: Dacia Logan 2, Renault Clio 4, 2013 Ford Mondeo, 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2013 Range Rover, Opel Adam, 2013 Seat Leon, Skoda Rapid, 2013 Audi A3 Sporback, Volkswagen Golf 7.
The first Dacia Logan was launched in September 2004. Eight years later the new Logan received a whole new framework with Germanic influences. The silhouette is somewhat similar, Dacia Logan 2 being easily recognized. Another novelty in the Logan range will be the introduction of a turbocharged three-cylinder 0.9-liter engine. This engine already debuted in the Renault range on the new Twingo and Clio and offers 90 hp and 135 Nm, enough to ensure an acceleration 0-100 km/h in 12.2 seconds and a top speed of 182 km/h.
Renault Clio 4
In addition to the Dacia novelties, Renault shows in Paris the fourth generation of Clio. About this model we already know pretty much everything, Renault publishing all data long before the auto show. But it will be the first chance for the press and the public to see it in reality. The new Renault Clio 4 comes with a completely new design with dynamic lines and promises to become a new landmark regarding the future Renault models. The model comes with new engines, a restyled interior, a changed exterior and many new features.
Another awaited premiere is the new 2013 Ford Mondeo. The high class model have already appeared for over a year on the U.S. market where it is sold as Ford Fusion. This is the first chance to see the dedicated version for Europe. The optical differences between the American version and the European one are minor, but in Paris we will find out full details of the engine range and most likely we will have the prices.
Hyundai has relaunched their most popular SUV in Europe – Santa Fe, now in its third generation. The SUV has accumulated global sales of about 2.56 million units during its production life, of which 350,000 were sold on the European market. The new model comes with a new look and a 2.0-liter diesel engine that develops 150 hp and a 2.2 liter optimized for 200 hp. For some markets there will be available a 2.4-liter petrol engine version.
Undeniably will be one of the stars at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new 2013 Range Rover is expected eagerly by many customers worldwide and Paris Motor Show is the first chance to see the new premium model in the “flesh” – or metal and plastic. The photos provided by Range Rover are spectacular, the largest model in the Range Rover range retaining the sobriety that characterized it so far, the general line of the bodywork being somewhat similar to the previous generation, especially seen from the side. Big changes coming to the front and rear, where the new Range Rover design was all changed. For the European market, customers can choose from three engines, one petrol (supercharged V8) and two diesel (3.0-liter TDV6 and 4.4-liter TDV8).
Opel brought to Paris the smallest model in the range named Adam, in honor of Adam Opel, the German brand creator. Opel Adam is the new mini class model. Adam is conceived as an urban car, thanks to its exterior dimensions. Adam Opel will initially be available with three efficient gasoline engines (1.2 liter – 70 hp, 1.4-liter – 87 hp and 100 hp) combined with a five speed-manual transmission.
2013 Seat Leon
VAG Group has a large presence in Paris and many more news on the list. The new Seat Leon is one of them, the Spanish manufacturer trying to maintain the public’s interest, approaching now a more sober style. Developed on the MQB modular platform, already found on the new generations of Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf 7, the new Leon is 52 millimeters shorter than the previous model (4.26 meters), 48 mm wider and shorter by 4 mm to infuse a sporty look. The wheelbase has also increased by 58 millimeters and now measures 2,636 mm. The engine range is completed with five petrol and four diesels.
For Skoda, the 2012 Paris Motor Show is an important moment. They will showcase an entirely new model, a sedan called Rapid. The press already had occasion to experience the new Czech model. Although it has the feel of a sedan, the new Skoda Rapid is a hatchback. It is a simple model without many design frills. Skoda Rapid comes in range below Octavia and addresses to young families, for many being a little better equipped Dacia Logan rival.
Audi brings to 2012 Paris Motor Show the five-door model of the new A3. Traditionally named A3 Sportback, the new model wants to impose on the compact premium market before rivals as BMW 1 Series or Mercedes-Benz A-Class. On the external level, the design doesn’t change very much, the only evolution being seen in size, that grows. The Germans announced that the new 2013 Audi A3 Sportback is 90 kilos lighter than the old generation thanks to the new MQB platform. The officials say that when the car is equipped with the 1.4 TFSI engine the total weight is only 1,205 kg.
We conclude here our tour with another major star from the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Volkswagen will attract public and media as a magnet when they’ll unveil for the first time the seventh generation of the popular Golf model. Although apparently not been too long since current Golf is on the market, Volkswagen has decided that it’s time for a replacement. Golf 6 was launched in 2008 but was actually a super-facelift for the number five generation. VW Golf 7 comes with a completely new platform, the famous MQB, but relies on the same classic design that made it famous worldwide. The front is dominated by a new grille, more discreet, and a set of optical blocks that betrays influences of the old generations, basically here are the most noticeable design evolution.
