McLaren P1 Propulsion is provided by a hybrid system consisting of a twin-turbo V8 engine of 3.8 liters, sustained by an electric motor. Together, the two engines provide 916 hp and 900 Nm. British have equipped their supercar with systems taken from Formula 1, such as DRS and IPAS, both controlled via buttons on the steering wheel. The “boost” system developed by McLaren called Ipas, delivers up to 179 hp at the touch of a button. The second button on the steering wheel, DRS, adjusts rear spoiler to reduce air friction by 23%.

Internal combustion engine is centrally mounted and delivers 737 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 720 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The electric motor delivers 179 hp and provides a torque of 260 Nm, from the first rotation. The electric motor is mounted under the combustion unit and both join forces in transmission with seven gears and two clutches, which delivers power to the rear wheels. For maximum efficiency, this engine provides kinetic energy recovery, energy normally lost through braking.
