Rolls-Royce Wraith is the long-awaited coupe version of the famous Rolls-Royce Ghost. It finally came to Geneva Auto Show 2013. With 630 horsepower, the new Rolls-Royce Wraith aims to rejuvenate the brand’s customers.
After two months of official teasers that presented small details with the new Rolls-Royce coupe, the British luxury manufacturer officially launched it at 2013 Geneva Auto Show. The new Rolls-Royce Wraith borrows the features that have made known the British brand, but it completely changes the traditional clients target. Having two doors and a coupe look, with only two seats dedicated to the passengers, Rolls-Royce Wraith – whose base is the Ghost model – is the sportiest model ever created by the manufacturer from Goodwood.

The design and construction features are complemented by the fact that Wraith has a wheelbase of 18.3 centimeters (7.2 in) lower than Ghost. The length decreased by 13 centimeters (5.1 in), while its height lowered by 4.3 centimeters (1.7) and, thereby, favoring the coupe aspect of the model.
The aesthetic part is accompanied by a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that produces 630 horsepower and comes with a maximum of 590 pound-feet of torque (800 Nm), Rolls-Royce Wraith becoming the most powerful model in the history of the brand of Albion.
To meet the demands of the customers who wanted a little more capable model in terms of dynamics, Rolls-Royce announces a noticeably stiff suspensions set, the steering wheel was also modified to meet the sports demands. However, “sporty” seems to be a slightly forced term for the new Rolls-Royce Wraith, the brand officials claiming that the model doesn’t address to those who are obsessed by the dynamism: “Even if Wraith push our brand in a new direction, evolving so that we hope to attract new customers and perhaps a bit young, our model remains a Rolls-Royce and the sense of ‘air bed’ known by our customers remains an important element of the DNA of the car,” says Torsten Muller-Otvos, director of the British company.
Rolls-Royce Wraith price will be approximately €245,000 Euros ($320,000). Among the technological novelties that it will be offered in this price, we have the pre-gear selector of the 8-speed ZF trasnmission, while the car should be on the next stretch of the road through the GPS and the optimal routing consulting, or the optimized voice control of the entire multimedia package. In addition, the systems control can be realized by using the touchpad placed on the center console that can be operated by “pinch and pull” commands , like any new generation smart phone.
Inside, the €250,000 will offer to the customers materials directly taken from Phantom, the Rolls-Royce flagship. From this model will be lent even the ceiling that mimics a starry sky by using 1340 LEDs, which will be mounted in premiere on a model that’s outside the Phantom’s range.
Rolls-Royce Wraith will reach its customers starting this autumn. According to the officials, the main markets that Rolls-Royce had in mind were the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
“Today we launch the ultimate gentlemen’s gran turismo, a car that embodies the spirit of Charles Stewart Rolls,” commented Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “The most powerful Rolls-Royce in history, Wraith promises the sense of adventure and speed that drove our founding forefather. But of course, Wraith’s starting point is luxury, refinement and quality, traits that remain as important to Rolls-Royce customers today as they were more than a century ago.”
Rolls-Royce Chairman and BMW Group board member Harald Krüger added the following: “The BMW Group today reconfirms its full commitment to the future of Rolls-Royce. Growth and a prosperous future lie ahead thanks to continued investment, careful brand stewardship and the launch of groundbreaking new models like Rolls-Royce Wraith, a magnificent addition to the product range.”
