Geneva 2013 Live: Maserati Quattroporte is the Essence of Italian Luxury

New creation of Centro Stile Fiat, Maserati Quattroporte, debuted in the European version at the Geneva Motor Show. Italians hope to sell 50,000 units per year while having big-name rivals in the segment, such as the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes CLS.

Maserati Quattroporte, the new flagship of the Italians, attracted all eyes at the Geneva Motor Show. The model retains the same seductive features usually found on Maserati but now presented in a new form.

Although Italians were quite stingy in Quattroporte specs, we must say, however, that the new Quattroporte design evokes the lines of the old Maserati models, set by the manufacturer’s own creative office, inside the Fiat Group Centro Stile. The new Maserati Quattroporte has been touched by Lorenzo Ramaciotti, famous Pininfarina designer, and retains some elements of the previous model: the front grille, side air vents and and the triangular C pillar.

Although Italian officials do not currently offer this information, the new Quattroporte increased in size, measuring 5,200 mm, about 15 cm longer than the old generation. In addition, the new model comes with a much higher apatament designed to provide generous knee and leg space.

Even with this scaling, the range promises to be lighter than the current generation, thanks to aluminum usage. The total weight will decrease from 1990 to 1940 kg.

Maserati Quattroporte Specs

The all-new Maserati Quattroporte will be sold in two engine variants: a 3.8-liter V-8 or a 3.0-liter V-6 engine, assembled by Ferrari at Maranello. Both engines have been completely improved compared to older version adding turbochargers to help along the way.

The V-6 engine will push Quattroporte up to a top speed of 177 mph, while the V-8 engine will reach not less than 191 mph. This latest version also ensures a 0 to 62 mph (100km/h) in just 4.7 seconds. Pretty impressive if you ask me. Even so, emissions and consumption will be reduced using a new eight-speed transmission elaborated by ZF. Price of Maserati Quattroporte should be somewhere around €120,000.
