Porsche has presented at the Geneva Motor Show (4-14.3.2010), a hybrid version of its racing model 911 GT3 R. The car with two of 60 kW/82 hp electric motor on the front and the 480-hp six-cylinder rear engine is at the 24-Stundner race starts in mid-May at the Nürburgring.
Instead of a flywheel, an electric storage battery, which is housed inside next to the driver delivers the energy for the two electric motors. This makes the rotor with up to 40 000 revolutions per minute. It will charge the energy storage during braking procedures, if the electric motors reverse their role and work as generators. From the loaded storage flywheel, the pilot can, if necessary, for example when accelerating out of corners or when overtaking, the energy retrieve it by the flywheel in the generator operation is electromagnetically braked. The extra power is a maximum of eight seconds.
