Jaguar C-X17 Concept was officially unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 (65th Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung), in a separate event. The new model foreshadows a potential series model and presents the British brand’s new platform.
Jaguar held a special event in Frankfurt at IAA in order to present its new crossover: C-X17 Concept. In addition to presenting a potential stylistic direction for the British brand, the concept presents the new aluminum monocoque architecture. It is distinguished by high strength and light weight while being very flexible, and will form the basis for future Jaguar models.
Jaguar C-X17 Concept – Design & Engine
The first model to receive the new platform (Premium Lightweight Arhitecture) is a segment C or D premium sedan, which will debut in 2015. Just like the platform, Jaguar C-X17 Concept prefigures a new range of engines developed in the United Kingdom with the help of Land Rover engineers.
These new engines will provide both low CO2 emissions and top performance. Whether or not it will build a production version of the C-X17, Jaguar will use the new aluminum architecture for its new models.
Jaguar C-X17 Concept presents a futuristic interior which integrates the new Interactive Surface Console technology. This is a network of displays fulfilling the vehicle’s infotainment functions in a stylish and innovative way. The result of the multimedia link between them and the passengers would provide a link with the outside world through social networks and internet.
The 4,718 millimeters long and 1,959 millimeters wide crossover concept has a ground clearance of 213 millimeters and a permanent four-wheel drive system that actively monitors the level of grip and splits torque between the axles to ensure optimum performance.
Regarding the engines, there will be the 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine with a performance of 240 horsepower, a 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine of 340 hp , the 2.2-liter turbodiesel of 163 and 220 horsepower, a 3.0-liter V6 diesel with 240 hp performance and a new 4-cylinder engine Hotfire , which will be manufactured at the new plant of JLR in Wolverhampton. Quite likely the car be equipped with a hybrid version.
The British crossover is expected to be called XQ or Q-Type and will be manufactured at Land Rover plant in Solihull , England. Will go on sale in 2015 or 2016, and will be more a coupe-crossover like the BMW X4 and not a hardcore off-roader.
As a sports crossover, the Jaguar C-X17 stretches the design possibilities of the segment by combining the character and driving experience of a sports car with increased presence, style and flexibility. The sports crossover concept represents the potential expansion of Jaguar’s portfolio of body styles, with the associated enhancement of the brand’s relevance and appeal to a wider global audience.
“The C-X17 sports crossover represents an exciting new direction for Jaguar. Its purpose is to highlight our all-new aluminum architecture. With this technical foundation, we will dramatically expand Jaguar’s product offering, market potential and customer appeal. This new philosophy will bring technology from our top-of-the-range products into new growing premium segments, and when combined with our new ultra-efficient engines, we will set a global standard. Add to these rational values, the class-leading dynamics, and the beauty and purity of form that Jaguar is renowned for, and we have the formula for a monumental leap forward.” Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar
Jaguar’s first product from the new architecture will be a new premium C/D segment sedan. Its global rollout will begin in 2015, and in North America in 2016, and it will be the first aluminum unibody product in the segment.
“We designed the C-X17 from the ground up from a distinct set of principles, a deep sense of what makes a Jaguar: exciting proportions, clean lines, balance of form. Assertive and powerful, yet with a beautiful sensuality about it, the C-X17 is boldly, distinctively Jaguar.” Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar
